Q: IF criticalartware had the kind of default UI found at
http://www.sondheim.org THEN would it change?
A: yes, this form of default has to do w/cultural assumptions made about
usefulness + functionality which jonSatrom's criticalartware GUI
[engages/questions/critiques].
Q: IF criticalartware had the kind of default UI found at
http://www.asondheim.org THEN would it change?
A: yes, this form of default has to do w/cultural assumptions made about
simplicity + transparency while also relating to earlier moments of
[computer/network] cultures.
we (criticalartware) are clearly interested in our [project/process] (@ least in
part, as an 'art [project/process]') w/[aesthetic/conceptual/structural]
attributes that are (@ least [partially/particlely]) [embedded/assembled] in the
GUIs we [utilize/destabilize/construct]. we are also playing w/the desktop
metaphor as [context/content] + as a hystorical basis for interrelated cultures.

i think that criticalartware as a collaborative is very invested in
[explo{d|r}ing/expanding/rewiring] defaults.
we have internally discussed defaults very often + esp in relation to the work
of the individual + collective [works/projects] of the members of Mongrel:
"Mongrel makes socially engaged cultural products employing any and all
technological advantages that they can lay their hands on. Its members dedicate
themselves to learning technological methods of engagement, which means they
pride themselves on the ability to program, engineer and build their own
software and custom hardware."
data.src:
developer: Mongrel
uri: (a previous version of) http://www.mongrelx.org/
in particular, Mongrel's HeritageGold addresses defaults as cultural
constructions, a kind of [hacking/cracking/reverse engineering] as detournement
+ skinning applications as an expression of socioeconomic critique in ways that
are [exciting/challenging] to criticalartware.
